John and his family played such a major role in my wife, Nina, and I's life. Meeting long-time friends of my then-girlfriend was intimidating and John and his family had spent decades investing in Nina, so I would have understood if they needed time to see if they approved of me. But, on our first meeting, John was so warm and accepting of me. There was no question of character, just acceptance. Every time I met him after that I always felt warmth from him. He was deeply engaging and showed genuine concern for how I was doing. I am humbled by the man he was and will always remember him with great fondness.
